Speakers announced for the IFRA UK Fragrance Forum
19th of August 2016The fragrance association IFRA UK has announced details of its 2016 Fragrance Forum, which will take place on October 12 at the Royal Society in London.
This year it has invited a group of speakers to explore fragrance, wellness and wellbeing, considering the effects of aroma on health both now and in the past.
Dr Mark Evans is a lecturer in biomedical and medical science at the School of Allied Health Sciences, Faculty of Health & Life Sciences, De Montfort University, Leicester. His presentation is entitled Making Sense of Frankincense.
Spices, Balsams and the Incense of Temples: the fragrances of ancient Egypt is the title of the presentation by John Johnston, a lecturer in the fields of Egyptology, Classics and cultural history.
Surgeon Carl Philpott, who set up the UK's first smell and taste clinic, will talk on the subject of Living Without Smell.
Born to Smell and to ‘Smook' is the intriguing title of the presentation from Dr Benoist Schaal. He invented the neologism ‘smook' in reference to his finding that, in young infants, smell has a strong impact on looking.
Professor Barry Smith will take a look at the role of smell in consciousness - he is director of the Institute of Philosophy at the University of London's School of Advanced Study. He will also lead an olfactory exploration of wine at the end of the day.
Vitaliy Zhyhun of Nielsen UK will speak on State of the Nation: Shoppers and Fragranced Products.
